How does this sound?
Get yourself out of bed earlier than anyone wants to think about, make yourself presentable, get to work two hours early, leave again almost immediately and go serve breakfast to a bunch of other people. Worse yet, you won’t be getting paid for your trouble.
Like the actions of a crazy person?
Why don’t you just throw a 14-mile run in there while you’re at it?
If you edit the experience slightly to point out that the “bunch of other people” are underprivileged and really need the food, does your opinion change?
Recently, a bunch of Mazumans decided that 6am sounded like a totally reasonable time to be at work if it meant they got to help people. And so they arrived at work at 6am, organized carpools, and promptly took off again to volunteer at the Morning Glory Cafe. They spent the rest of the morning doing their part to help serve up some of the over 400 meals that the Morning Glory Cafe provides to people in need each week. They loved it so much they went back again a few weeks later.
Check out these cheerful faces:
It turns out that if you’re helping people, you don’t need coffee to be happy in the morning. Helping people works just as well!
