As much as it hurts to come to terms with it, the Kansas City Royals are not in the MLB postseason this year. Sure, it stings, but we like to look at the bright side. Here are seven reasons why the Royals missing the playoffs ain’t so bad.
1. You get your full eight hours on weeknights
How many nights did you stay up to watch the Royals rampage through the playoffs the past two years? Those West Coast games against the Angels? The extra-inning madness against the Mets? This year, you can get the beauty sleep you truly deserve.
2. You can focus on the Chiefs
Sure, the Chiefs took one on the chin against the Steelers, but there’s still plenty of reason for optimism. They won their first playoff game in forever last year, and they finally got Jamaal Charles back (not to mention Justin Houston’s impending return in a few weeks). After two years of playing second fiddle to the Royals, the Chiefs are again the biggest show in town.
3. You can watch every episode of “Catching Kelce”
Speaking of big shows … Since your eyes won’t be glued to baseball, you can switch channels to E! and not miss an episode of “Catching Kelce,” the sure-to-be-awkward-and-hilarious reality dating show featuring the Chiefs tight end. Who will he choose? Will he score? TUNE IN TO FIND OUT.
4. You won’t freeze at the games
Watching the Royals win the World Series was fun. Enduring the rain, wind and cold into late October? Not so much. Luckily for Indians fans, Cleveland is just lovely this time of year. Have fun with that.
5. You’ll have less panic attacks
The miracle comebacks against the A’s and Astros. Fending off the Blue Jays in the ALCS. The entire 2015 World Series. Your blood pressure deserves a break. Re-center yourself by watching great new shows like “This is Us” while stuffing your face full of pumpkin spice everything.
6. You’ll save money on merch
How much money did you spend on World Series t-shirts? Hats? Beanies? Jackets? Hoodies? Ponchos? Programs? Newspapers? Christmas ornaments? Posters? Pins? Baseballs? And anything else you can think of? This year, you’ll save so much money. Your bank account is already thanking you (and the Royals).
7. You can celebrate Halloween to the fullest
As great as last year’s run was, we kinda got gypped out of Halloween. Instead of dressing up and going to parties, we nervously watched the World Series in our living rooms, praying that the next group of Avengers or Disney princesses would wait until a commercial to ring our doorbells. THEY NEVER DID.
8. You’ll have more reason to cheer on the Royals next season
While it would have been awesome to be back-to-back World Series champs, not making the playoffs this year gives fans all the more motivation to cheer harder for our boys in blue next season. We waited a long time for a second World Series win, and we’ll wait for a third. (Just don’t make it 30 years, OK?)
