Everyone’s heard of Take Your Child to Work Day. Been there, done that.* Between April 9-16, Mazumans participated in Take Your Can to Work Day. As in a literal can, as in cans of food. (And boxes and bags of food, too – we’re not picky.)
Here’s a smattering of the 525 cans Mazumans brought in (with a few Mazumans to boot):
Take Your Can to Work Day is a benefit for Harvesters, Kansas City’s esteemed and beloved food bank which has been operating since 1979. Harvesters collects food and household products for distribution to those in need, provides nutrition services through a network of nonprofits, and works to increase awareness of hunger in our community. They absolutely rock, and they do a ton of good for a bunch of people who need it, to the tune of 66,000 people a week.
We’re really proud to be able to work with Harvesters, not just during this particular food drive, but as a regular thing. We hang out in the Volunteer Outreach Center and sort and repackage products to help them stay organized and efficient.
Cool fact: Mazuma will be volunteering at Harvesters on the aforementioned Take Your Child to Work Day, and Harvesters is graciously letting us bring our adorable spawn with us to learn and help out. Thank you kindly, Harvesters!
*We still do that, actually. The acceptable age limit for children brought to work by Mazumans that day is 8-44.
