There are tons of places you can go to get sound financial advice. Apparently, Cosmo isn’t one of them. The women’s mag ran an article about how you should save money on mints by freezing a tube of toothpaste and cutting it up into breath saver wannabes. Uh, not to point out the #obvious, but toothpaste costs more than mints. Plus you have to eat toothpaste, which would likely result in a call to poison control. Bad financial advice isn’t a new concept, though, so we thought we’d come up with a list of worst advice for saving money, terrible life hacks and straight-up bad ideas.
Separating two ply toilet paper.
It may save ya a buck or two, but we guarantee this won’t double the pleasure or double the fun.
Duct tape fixes everything.
If you can’t fix it with duct tape, then you probably aren’t using enough duct tape.
Desperate for cheap dates? Reuse a calendar from past years, and you’ll get 365 free ones. For 2014, you can use calendars from 2003, 1997 and 1986. Good luck finding those.
Cutting your own hair.
This should just go on a permanent list of mistakes we should all quit making.
